Tammy Moore, a fitness instructor from Pueblo, Colorado, had been dealing with heel pain for several months before she finally went to get professional help. She initially tried to solve the problem by wearing different shoes, but the pain only got worse.
“When I’d wake up and take a step, it felt like the arches were cramped,” Moore said. “I would have this whole process of waking my feet up in the morning.” Her doctor told her that she had plantar fasciitis, a condition involving an inflamed ligament in the heel and foot.
Moore’s recovery process was long and hard. It was more than a year before her plantar fasciitis was fully healed, and she paid over $1000 on special shoes, insoles, and foot therapy. “At the first signs, if you think you have it, start (treatments),” she said. “If I felt it coming back, I think I’d do all these things.”
If you don’t take proper care of your feet, you might develop a painful condition like plantar fasciitis. For help dealing with plantar fasciitis, speak to podiatrist Dr. Sorelis Jimenez of Foot Health Podiatry. Dr. Jimenez will assess the health of your feet and assist you in getting the care you need.
The Condition Known as Plantar Fasciitis

Treatments That Can Help Plantar Fasciitis
- Shockwave Therapy- works by sending sound waves to the sites where pain is being experienced. Commonly used for chronic cases of plantar fasciitis, shockwave therapy usually requires multiple sessions
- Ultrasound-guided technique with steroid injections into the plantar fascia. This is from a relatively smaller new study but shown to be effective in most cases treated
- Conservative Measures- ice packs, stretching exercises, orthotic devices, physical therapy and/or anti-inflammatory medication
What Can Cause Plantar Fasciitis?
- Excessive running
- Lack of adequate footwear
