Broken ToeSaturdays singer Una Foden will be making her debut in Splash!, despite sustaining a broken toe during a practice rehearsal. “Una has been putting everything into her training but is having to take it as easy as possible right now because she’s in a lot of pain,” sources told Mirror. ‘She wasn’t even jumping off the board when it happened. She was practicing landing in foam in a ‘dry dive’ area and her foot just buckled.’

One of the main celebrities for Tom Daley’s new series, the singer-songwriter will be working on healing her toe while continuing to perform in spite of the pain. Foden turned to social media, tweeting: ‘I’ve had a broken baby toe for a couple of weeks. I know it’s the poorest excuse for a moan ever but boy does it hurt.’

Suffering from a broken toe can be a painful injury to deal with. If you sustained a broken toe, consult podiatrist Dr. Sorelis Jimenez of Foot Health Podiatry. Dr. Jimenez can assess your toe and provide the best treatment options for your recovery.

What to Know About a Broken Toe

Although most people try to avoid foot trauma such as banging, stubbing, or dropping heavy objects on their feet, the unfortunate fact is that it is a common occurrence. Given the fact that toes are positioned in front of the feet, they typically sustain the brunt of such trauma. When trauma occurs to a toe, the result can be a painful break (fracture). Another type of trauma that can break a toe is repeated activity that places stress on the toe for prolonged periods of time.

Symptoms of a Broken Toe

o   throbbing pain
o   swelling
o   bruising on the skin and toenail
o   the inability to move the toe with ease.
o   toe appears crooked or disfigured
o   tingling or numbness in the toe
o   injured person experiences fever or chills throughout their body, and when there is an open, bleeding wound present on the toe.

Generally, a minor toe break will heal without long-term complications, but it is important to discontinue activities that put pressure on the toe. It is best to stay off of the injured toe with the affected foot elevated on pillows. Swelling can be alleviated by placing an ice pack on the broken toe for 15 minutes every two hours then taping the two toes together with medical tape.

Broken FootActress Christina Applegate The Samantha Who? star was getting ready to star in the 2005 revival of Sweet Charity when she suddenly suffered a foot injury. This would have been Applegate’s Broadway debut but suffered a setback.

"I don't think disappointing is a word that can describe how awful that whole experience was, how sad it was. I'd been working so hard, dancing my butt off, and once it (her foot) was broken, I could never do the show the way I had rehearsed it," said Applegate.

Applegate was replaced by an understudy before returning to the stage, but she couldn’t demonstrate her intricate dance moves by the doctors’ orders.

While painful, a broken foot can be managed and treated by a podiatrist like Dr. Sorelis Jimenez of Foot Health Podiatry. Dr. Jimenez can examine your broken foot, determine the severity of your injury, and work with you to provide the appropriate treatment options.

Broken Foot Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment

A broken foot is caused by one of the bones in the foot ‘breaking’, or fracturing. Bones typically break when the bone is bended, crushed, or stretched beyond its natural capabilities. Usually the location of the fracture indicates how the break occurred, whether it was through an object, fall, or any other type of injury.

Common Symptoms of Broken Feet:

· Bruising
· Pain
· Redness
· Swelling
· Blue (foot)
· Numbness
· Cold
· Misshapen
· Cuts
· Deformities

Those who are experiencing any of these symptoms, or suspect that they have a broken foot, should seek medical attention in a center where x-rays can be performed. This is especially urgent if any of the symptoms include numbness, blue coloring, cold feet, cuts, misshapen toes or deformities as these indicate more severe cases.
